LUMATOUCH: A new form of expression only available on Lumatone!

We've created a new form of keyboard expression called LUMATOUCH, and you'll only ever find it on a Lumatone Isomorphic Keyboard.

Maybe you've read all about continuous controllers on Lumatone, and the fact that Lumatone is one of those rare controllers that also offers full Polyphonic Aftertouch. But maybe you're still hungry for even more ways to express yourself. For you, we've invented something new, and we're calling it Lumatouch.

Lumatouch was developed as a new way to express yourself with all of the power of a Lumatone key at once. We think this mode will be especially useful for the performance of expressive pads and drones, giving you more of a range of motion to modulate your sounds when compared with simply using traditional polyphonic aftertouch.

Any key on your Lumatone keyboard can be set as a Lumatouch key. You do this using our Lumatone Editor software.

Setting your keys to Lumatouch is simple: change the the Key Type from Note On/Off to Lumatouch. The key will now behave like any other note on/off key, but you can now engage Lumatouch by pressing to the bottom of the aftertouch region. This single push inward converts the key instantly to a continuous controller, and allows you to control the polyphonic aftertouch parameter across the full range of key travel, instead of the usual small pressurized area at the bottom of a keystroke.

Note: Polyphonic aftertouch must be enabled in your mapping for these keys to work properly, and if it isn’t, keys set to Lumatouch will revert to being Note On/Off keys.

For any keys in a mapping that are set to Lumatouch, you can play as normal. Remember that you dig in and press to the end of aftertouch to engage Lumatouch behaviour. Lumatouch behaviour only stays active for as long as the note or chord's keys are held. If you lift your hand completely, the keys you engaged will behave normally the next time you play them.

So there you have it, Lumatouch, only on Lumatone! A special new mode that allows you to modulate long held notes and chords with more precision than with aftertouch alone. We’d love feedback on the current implementation and will continue to tweak how Lumatouch works via firmware updates based on your input!
