Currently, every Lumatone is built from scratch the moment you order it, and this takes some time.
We at Lumatone are a small and passionate group of designers, engineers, and musicians based out of Toronto, Ontario. Building your Lumatone is a labour of love for all involved, and it starts the moment you hit the order button. We have partners in China helping us with various steps of the process to keep things as economical and efficient as possible, but every Lumatone ends up at our shop here in Toronto for a thorough inspection, a barrage of tests, and various steps involved in finishing each instrument.
I've received a lot of questions about batches and how they relate to when Lumatones are built. To clarify, when we refer to batches, we're referring to a limited number of Lumatones that we can sell at a certain price point, and it doesn't relate to when or how we build instruments.
While it is true that some buyers have received their Lumatones either earlier or later than our estimated time of 8-10 weeks, this is only out of chance or factors outside our control. Earlier in our process, COVID delays played a big part in any delays we experienced, and these are behind us now. And while we build parts at certain intervals, we assemble Lumatones only as they are ordered, and we can ship them from our assembly partners only in certain quantities. This means we have to wait for a certain number of Lumatones to have been built before we can ship them to our Toronto-based shop for quality assurance.
Once they arrive in Toronto, it can take anywhere from 4-6 days to fully inspect, test, and apply the finishing touches to your Lumatone.
As time goes on, we hope to shorten the time it takes from ordering to shipping. In the mean time, the best way to get your instrument sooner is to order now. Getting your instrument in the queue will ensure you receive the next available Lumatone.
