Will I be charged duty or taxes when receiving my Lumatone?

Important information about duty and taxes if you purchase a Lumatone from outside of Canada.

Lumatone is designed and shipped out of Toronto, Canada. Canadians pay sales tax at the time of ordering, but if you live outside of Canada, you won't pay any sales tax when you order.

Instead, you'll be charged sales tax when you import it during the shipping process. You may have had this experience before if you've ever ordered products from another country. You will be charged whatever the going sales tax is, and the courier that is delivering your Lumatone will collect the right amount.

In Europe, this amount is called VAT. In the USA, each state has its own tax rates, and your courier will collect this amount upon delivery. This happens the same way in almost every country, so be aware that you will be charged your local sales tax rate upon receiving your package.

Some countries also charge tariffs or duty on imports. The good news here is that Lumatone is a computer controlling device, and in most countries that means it is duty-free upon import. Lumatone is designed and finished in Toronto, Canada, but since our instruments are majority-assembled in China, some countries may charge recipients a small tariff (usually 4-7%), but this is varied depending on where you live.

We at Lumatone cannot be responsible for paying foreign sales taxes or duties, nor can we be responsible for knowing what country-specific duty or taxes might be. If you aren't sure about how your country deals with importing computer controller equipment, it is best to look into what you can expect before ordering. In case you require it, Lumatone is classified with the HS Code 8471.41.00.
